~ Using Logger Pro www.vernier.com to check out product and prices
~ Logger Pro connects to TI-83 calculators
~ nice graphing program available
~ students can put the software on their own computers at home
Demonstration of Labs
~ showed some videos examples – Ball Toss (Motion Detector) (can interact with movie - frame by frame)
~ Students can watch the video and the creation of the graph
~ Can view the graph independently of the movie (check velocity, curve fit, try fit, etc.)
~ Can find the points of the line to check velocity at a certain time…
~ Sometimes students cannot interpret the graph, so the video helps students visualize the concept
~ Can manipulate the data table like an excel spreadsheet
~ When you use just motion detectors, some students are shaky when interpreting where when you use Logger Pro students can get more of a precise interpretation.
~ One draw back is teachers use this solely instead of teaching the benefits of excel which students need in college
Questions:
~ How do you tie this in to a lesson?
Response:Have students find the velocity of a meter, acceleration, and slopes…
~ Do you use the video with mechanics?
Response: Use videos that represent waves…reactions and temp probes…
~ Are you familiar with Video Point? Like Logger Pro 3?
Response: It appears as though Logger Pro 3 is using some Video Point
Participants were given time to play with the program
